Just wanted to share that my first first-author paper is now online! In the journal Stem Cells and Development, here’s my paper on “Roles of Integrins in Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Growth on Matrigel and Vitronectin.”
I just wanted to take a quick moment to thank you, my readers and contributors to this blog. This post marks the 250th Post on this incarnation of the Rants, and we have over 1,200 comments in the system. That’s a lot of thoughts.
When you add in the (recent restored for posterity’s sake) PD Forum, we get a total of over 300 posts and 1,600 comments, for little more than a year of existance. Wow.
It makes me feel good to know that this site is standing the test of time and becoming something I reference– yeah, looking back through the early Archives can be a lot of fun.
Plus, I track when people use search engines to access my site, and we have a few “famous” posts… Halloween Costumes, Tapirs, Taoism, and Dream Imagery head the list, but lots of other things as well turn up now and again. People find the Rants, and I hope some leave with a smile or a new nugget of trivia.
So again, thank you all for participating: Reading, Commenting, Posting, or whatever. I love this website, and I heartily encourage you to love it, too.
Hurray! I’m trying to post, since last time is failed . . . if it works, I’ll try to lurk less.
Thanks for the hurray.
I just wanted to post an example of the Google searches that cause people to click on links to this site, because I think it’s pretty amusing and kind of cool. These are the searches that lead people here yesterday:

Paradoxdruid - November 30th, 2005 at 11:48 pmI wonder if we should bother Google bombing on some weird stuff
otownes - December 2nd, 2005 at 9:20 amI hope not! I don’t particularly approve of Google Bombing. Purposefully destroying the utility of such a wonderful tool seems rather tragic to me… even if it leads to temporary amusement at times.
Speaking of lurking less… Come on, people! I know you’re out there!

Just read a fascinating (if lengthy) essay on disruptive technology and the future of scientific publishing. Well worth the read!
Just wanted to share Mint.com’s Visual Guide to Deflation, which is quite explanatory.
Hey all Paradoxdruid readers! I recently started up a blog on stem cells that I’d love you all to take a look at: http://www.allthingsstemcell.com/
I participated in another Barely literate book review podcast, this time on Nicholson Baker’s “The Fermata”. Give it a listen!
Obama has outlined a strategy for America, in great depth. Read all about Change.gov!
Okay, I’ll admit that it’s entirely possible that I am the last person to learn about this website*, but it’s really addictive.
It’s a game that tests your vocabulary. Each time you get a word’s meaning correct, 20 grains of rice are donated to the UN World Program. So, give Free Rice a whirl. I bet you’ll have fun and you’ll get to help make strides toward ending hunger.
*I heard about it forever ago, I just never actually looked at it.
