Multiple Random Links

I came across three odd things that deserve linking to.

Though for some reason it’s not letting me form the link, instead I’m
having to write out the whole URL. (Any ideas about this Andrew, I’m
using the newest version of Firefox by the way).



First is about
a new group of mutant sheep that have been found less susceptible to
fly infestations. This could end the need for cutting off  the
piece of skin usually affect, something PETA’s been trying to put a
stop to.



Next, the flamethrower car, now available in South Africa. Nothing more needs to be said, except for the suggestion to watch the quicktime movie with the article



Last is flash animation with a really bad math joke

Thanks for the links, andy! I’ll fix the URL formatting… The way to post URLs in main posts is different than in comments (in comments it’s the bracket wrapped stuff, in main posts it’s using standard HTML markup). I haven’t actually WATCHED them yet, but I will– and then report back. ;-)

I couldn’t get the the last link (the bad math joke) to work. The link actually has a problem, so if you (PD) could fix it that’d be great (it’s just got the paradoxdruid.com stuff in front of the actual URL). After I edited the URL, the video didn’t load for me (and I do have flash, so I’m not sure what’s wrong)…

I didn’t know that people did such a thing to sheep — I thought the main (or most common) extent of such maiming, sanitary practices on livestock was the cutting off of cows’ tails, but it doesn’t surprise me that they mutilate sheep like that. Anything for a good Big Mac or side of mutton, right? Shouldn’t even get started on how they treat chickens and pigs… (instead, people can go look at “PETA.org”:http://www.peta.org/ — warning: graphic content.)
On the bright side, that is clearly a “convenient” mutation they discovered…

It’s really sad that things have had to come to flamethrower cars. It sounds like something you’d see in a futuristic, ultra-violent movie… I wonder if it’s going to stay legal.

Andrew showed it to me and actually printed out some of the cards to leave at restaurants and stores (number two) (while Santa Barbara might be able to use some of that, I’m not sure Boulder needs any more…).

Free Rice

Okay, I’ll admit that it’s entirely possible that I am the last person to learn about this website*, but it’s really addictive.  It’s a game that tests your vocabulary.  Each time you get a word’s meaning correct, 20 grains of rice are donated to the UN World Program.  So, give Free Rice a whirl.  I bet you’ll have fun and you’ll get to help make strides toward ending hunger.

 *I heard about it forever ago, I just never actually looked at it.

Security Cam Music Video

This band decided they didn’t have money to make a video, so they set up in public places in view of security cameras, then asked to get the footage from the people.

Pretty cool results, though a little creepy to think how much these cameras are around.

Some Frogs and Toads are just weird…

Thanks to one of my favorites blogs, Zooillogix, I recently got to see toads giving live birth from their back and frogs without lungs. I must say, amphibians are weird! But do those frogs really count as amphibians…? And honestly, those toads gross me out a bit — and that’s hard for biology to do to me!
